Ahh, the allure of the short term.

It’s so easy to initially:

  • Eat that donut now, ignoring weight issues that will creep up later.
  • Buy that fun item on the spot, but forego that amount towards savings.
  • Hire the “ok” candidate today, but forget you’ll pay the price when they remain mediocre.
  • Put the paperwork in a pile, but then you’ll need to spend twice as long filing it after it amasses.
  • Say yes to another commitment without considering the stress of prep and travel.
  • Ignore proactive maintenance tasks, but then eventual downtime and damage result.
  • Stay up and binge “just one more episode,” and then you’ll be sleep-deprived the next day.
  • Ignore those local elections, but then you suffer the consequences of policy decisions.
  • Allow that cute puppy to jump up on you, but then you’ll be trampled when the big dog still does it.
  • Toss the recyclables in the trash, but eventually you’ll feel the impact of climate change.

Before you act in the easy way, pause to consider what comes next. The long term is where the impact happens.
