We’re all familiar with “handicap entrances” to buildings — doors that are on level ground, accessible to wheelchairs without physical barriers.
I recently saw a sign indicating a “stair-less entrance.” I’m sure it’s the same thing but how much nicer is that phrasing? It could work for wheelchairs, of course, but also for people who have difficulty navigating steps, for those using a stroller, or those wheeling a delivery cart.
Words matter. Take a lesson from this campus and use phrasing in the most positive light possible. I’m not sure stair-less is even a word, but regardless, it’s a fine principle to follow when creating your message.
