Just a few feet beyond the end zone where Tom Brady threw so many touchdown passes, lies a working cranberry bog. It may seem incongruous to have such a serene piece of nature adjacent to a highly commercialized venture, but there it is, complete with nesting swans and wildlife. The seven acres have to be lucrative property for a hotel, restaurant, or other game-related amenities, but fortunately, it was preserved and continues to be operated by Ocean Spray.
The close proximity highlighted the juxtaposition of two worlds — neon advertisements vs. tranquil marsh. It also reminds us that things don’t have to be all or nothing. You can build a stadium and preserve the sanctuary around it. You can work like mad and carve out an hour for yourself. You can focus on external connections and develop a well-being culture.
Keep a broad perspective and consider what lies beyond your “end zone.” Just like in Foxboro, you have the ability to create a pocket of respite even when it doesn’t seem like you can.
