leadership dot #4662: darts

If you don’t have a target, it’s hard to know whether you’re being successful.

People need a target to help them intentionally prioritize their time and efforts. If you only respond to things that come to you – emails, meeting requests, problems – it’s akin to randomly shooting darts. It is much more productive when you have a strategic goal that identifies where you should aim – in other words, where you should spend your energy.

Shooting darts that land all over the board isn’t a strategy. It may keep you busy, but it’s not likely to help you win.
