When I was driving a rental car, I got that sick pit in my stomach when a warning tone sounded. “Oh no,” I thought.
It turns out that the indicator was a message telling me to “consider taking a break.” What?! Since when did the car start making suggestions of this nature? I ignored it — repeatedly, as the car seemed to think that if it hounded me enough I would comply.
Just because you have the technology to display messages, send texts, or otherwise communicate with people, does not mean you should. Reserve your interruptions for truly valid announcements instead of arbitrary suggestions.
